5 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Shanon Materio

According to some statistics, fewer than 15% of voters turn out for local elections which is a stark contrast compared to the 65%, in Florida, that voted during the presidential election. As a leader in the startup community,  I believe we can do better and I hope to learn that we did come tomorrow.

First – I’d like to drop the political jargon and give you a look behind the scenes at one of the candidates.

5 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Shanon Materio

  1. She was one of the first female aviation majors at her college.
  2. Her small business, McMow Art Glass, is the largest art glass studio in the state of Florida and Shanon and McMow designed every window in Gianni Versace’s South Beach home.
  3. In 2016, Shanon was the recipient of the prestigious Chamber of Commerce Athena Award celebrating her leadership and her support of other women in business.
  4. Shanon is an avid reader and has belonged to a local book club for many years. Her favorite book right now is Devil in White City and she is looking forward to the movie coming out!
  5. She was one the first to lend her support for Startup Palm Beach. She served as a judge for Startup Weekend and sponsored events, on behalf of McMow, that helped incubate and launch several companies.

We brought you Startup Weekend, Bar Camp, Entrepreneurship Week, Crowdfunding and Cocktails, and State of Entrepreneurship. Startup Palm Beach is ranked Top 100 Startup Blogs in the World at #81 and continues to prop up the startup ecosystem, behind the scenes, now that other organizations have been able to step up to see these events through year after year.

I can’t speak to the other candidates because frankly, they weren’t around. There were, however, a number of people that contributed to our success, Shanon is one of them.

It’s important to acknowledge that we need to be informed on the whos, whats, and whys before we cast our votes. This requires a bit of diligence on your part so here are a few links to help you effectively navigate your way to the polls on March 13th.
