Launching Companies in 54 Hours
Meet Marina, she’s 8 years old and had an idea that won her team equal third place. The courage, energy and professionalism she displayed took the room by storm. Her pitch was incredibly articulate, fun and dare I say, cute.
She pitched the idea for a cold press juice company called Juicy Good that would market to kids because, “kids don’t like to eat their vegetables.”
The leader of our second place team had an idea to support users that have the need to log community service hours. iVolunteer was lead by two students from Boynton Beach Community High School. They not only presented a compelling case for their business idea but they created a prototype with support from the coaches at Levatas and Kyle Pierce of startup, Pickk.co.
This year’s first place team was lead by Christian Pestana from Orlando, FL. I was told that he and his friend were inspired by their travels and came up with the idea for Xplorer while walking to the venue in Downtown West Palm Beach only minutes before Friday night’s pitches. The desire to understand and engage with a new place was the driving factor.
This was our fourth Startup Weekend hosted by Startup Palm Beach in the city of West Palm Beach. Here are a couple key takeaways for us: it was the youngest group we’ve had and it was encouraging that they presented the most polished pitches.
1st Place: Xplorer
2nd Place: iVolunteer
3rd Place: Church Taxi & Juicy Good
